Hike the volcanic peninsula of Ponta de São Lourenço, the eastern part of madeira and natural reserve, here you will find a naked landscape where only short shrubs survive due to the nearly constant northern winds. The rock formations and shrubs are home to some of the most interesting animals on the island like the lizard and native birds.

The paths ends at Casa do Sardinha an old private building that is now used as a shelter to the park guards.
Here and before you go back to the beginning of the path, you can enjoy a swim on the ocean and the view to the Desertas Islands and Porto Santo.

Also known as Levada do Furado, this path starts in Ribeiro Frio and ends in Portela. It will take you through a wide variety of plants and shrubs, especially laurel and heather.

This is part of the Laurissilva forest, a UNESCO natural world heritage region.

Along the walk there are beautiful views of the farmed terraces in Faial, São Roque do Faial e Porto da Cruz in the North and the fantastic Penha d`Águia or Eagle´s Rock.

This water canal has its beginning on the north side of the Island running for approximately 60 km, it is one of the longest canals on the island.

The part we will be walking will take through the high areas of Câmara de Lobos and Campanário.

Along the way, among pine trees, acacias and eucalyptus there will be farmed terraces and once in a while we will be greeted by a local who uses the Levada as their backyard.

Levada do Rei is situated on the north side of the Island in the Santana district in São Jorge.

The lush vegetation is typical Laurissilva forest, World Nature Heritage of UNESCO since 1999 and the home to many indigenous birds as the Bis-Bis or the tentilhão, a small passerine bird in the finch family.

The path starts in Quebradas and ends at Ribeiro Bonito where you feel transported back in time to the discovery of the island due to the almost primeval forest.

High on central plateau Paul da Serra at aproximatly 1 000m from sea level, this is where we start the walk at the Rabaçal area heading towards the 25 Fontes.
A natural lagoon that features about 25 springs of the coldest and clearest water on the island.

Along the first part of the path we can see endemic species such as the high altitude heathers and uveira da serra.

As we go to a lower altitude the vegetation changes to a more common Laurissilva kind of shrubs and plants, it is here where the Pombo Torcaz, a pigeon that only exists within this forest, can be found

Starting at the Queimadas Forestry Park by the shelter (Casa de Abrigo das Queimadas), that retains the original features of the typical houses of Santana, including a marvellous thatched roof that it is used by the park guards.
This path is well known for the its stunning views over the valley of São Jorge. There are number tunnels that you will have to go through, so a flashlight and head protection are advisable.

One of the highlights is the Caldeirão Verde lagoon that is formed by the water that falls from 100m from the top, here you can have a break and catch your breath for the return walk.

Walk between two of the highest peaks in Madeira on this Pico do Arieiro to Pico Ruivo path where you will find along the way various caves dug out of the volcanic rock where the cattle took refuge and served as shelter for the shepherds.

To reach Pico Ruivo, you must go around Pico das Torres up a steep set of steps carved in the rock and then descend, the most difficult part of this trail is the final climb to the Shelter at Pico Ruivo.
Here you will find a footpath of about 2,8km that will take you to Achada do Teixeira where our walk will end.
